Physical Science: Test on Module #9. Make sure that you have memorized your equations for Speed, Velocity, Acceleration and Distance. You need to also know the acceleration constant for both meters and feet. You must bring your calculator to class for the test. There will be no sharing of calculators during the test. Make sure you understand motion and how objects are in motion relative to one another.

Personal Finance: Read Chapters 1 and 2 in Money Matters for Teens as well as the handout given out in class.

Physical Science Complete the Worksheets I handed out in class. If you a struggling with the formulas review the example problems in the module and then try again. We will review these in class. It is important that you spend time with this material. Make sure that you bring your calculator to class.

Economics. We will finish the movie The Inside Job on Friday and discuss. If you would like extra credit please do the following and turn into me by Tuesday, January 24, 2011. This needs to be at least 750 words. Make sure that you show you source at the end of the paper. You do not have to do a bibliography, just let me know where you got your information. This paper must show that you put time into the topic. It should be well thought out.

Use any reputable business reporting source (NYT, WSJ, Business Week, Kiplingers, Money.com etc) to find an example of a market (other than stock markets) experiencing an increase or decrease in demand. Describe the market, why demand is changing, and the impact on the market. Also, find an example of a market experiencing an increase or decrease in supply. Again, describe the market and why market supply is changing and the impact on the market.

Hello All,

For Economics this week. I can't believe this is our last week. It has been a great semester and I hope that all of you had fun.

We will be watching The Inside Job, a documentary on the banking crisis on Tuesday and part of Friday. We will end Friday with a discussion of the movie.

If you did not turn in your discussion questions on Friday you have until Tuesday to turn them in.

Physical Science. Make sure that you have completed the Study Guide for Module 9. You may begin the worksheets I handed out in class if you would like but this is not required. We will be doing these problems in class so that I can see that each of you understand the material.

Hope you had a great Tuesday. I am sorry I missed being in class with you. First time in a long time I had a fever. I forgot how bad it feels. The work that Mrs. Nicole gave to you during class will be due for homework. It is listed below. I look forward to seeing all of you on Friday.

For Physical Science. Complete the Study Guide on Page 24 and the Summary of Module 1 on page 449.(their page number may be different on this one) They will not be graded on this since I have not finished the chapter with them but tell them to give it the best try they can. They can work together.

For Economics based on the reading that they have done so far answer the following questions: They can work on this together.

1. Look up the following words in a dictionary and write down their definitions: Fascism, liberty, economics, history, republic and democracy. Does each work have more than one definition? Why?

2. If a word has more than one definition, why it is important that an author define his or her meaning of a word about which he/she is writing?

3. Uncle Eric says, "For the most part history books report political history and ignore economic history." what is the educational impact of omitting economic history?

4. In Chapter Two Uncle Eric asks Chris two questions: 1. Do you think the government manipulates our livelihoods as if we were puppets on a string? 2. Do you think political power corrupts? Write a brief essay in which you answer these questions yourself. Be sure that you not only state your beliefs/opinions, but that you also provide support for your belief/opinions. If you do not have any evidence to support your beliefs, what makes you accept your beliefs? There are no right or wrong answers. The purpose of this exercise is to help you clearly identify you position on these issues.

5. From Chapter Three Throughout most of the 1980's officials praised the economic recovery and boasted about their astute handling of economic policy. But by the end of the 1980's the truth about the recovery was widely known. What was that "truth?"

Course Description:

This course is designed to give students an introduction to the physical aspect of science. This includes many of the more important ideas covered later in Chemistry and Physics. We will cover topics such as Newton's Laws and chemical reactions while working on developing scientific thought processes and integrating science into other aspects of daily life. We will achieve this through small group and class discussion, labs, and numerous hands-on activities inside and outside the classroom. It is so hard to believe we only have 8 more classes. Below is the schedule for the rest of the year. I am so excited that we are going to have 2 class periods dedicated to Astro Physics. Almost Spring Break. Everyone has done a great job this quarter. All my Physical Science students have left to do before break it to complete their science fair projects!! Can't wait to see them. I will meet all of you in the room downstairs Friday morning to help you set up and then you will have a chance to show your project to your classmates and we can discuss and help prepare for you talk with the judges. During Spring Break you have no work assigned. We are really ahead of schedule so enjoy your break. Make sure that the Monday before our Tuesday class you re-read Module 14 so that we can jump right in. Cultural Geography due Friday. Make sure that you have considered the question on the handout on the Aral Sea. If you need to see the video again it is on You Tube. Aral Sea, It is the Live Earth Series by LiveEarthDotorg. It runs a little over 10 minutes. During the break the you will not have any homework for regular class. The honors students do need to be working on their powerpoint presentations and reading the book Son of Hamas. I will post the question for the book on the blog so check checking in. During the break everyone should be preparing for International Day. You should get very creative with this. Remember that you are representing your country during a specific period in time. You will need to do research to find out what time period interests you most and then create a person that lived during this period. It would be just like you telling someone about your life right know. You need to be able to be very specific about the details of your life. If your family with participate with you that will be great but if not you can create a life for just one person. Remember that you need to dress in the period, have food for the period, etc. Nicole and I are here to help in any way. If you have trouble finding certain items to help with your presentation, let Nicole know so she can request items in the weekly newsletter. Cultural Geography Introduction

I am so excited to be able to teach a second class with Trinity this year and Cultural Geography is proving to be a very exciting curriculm. Because this is the first year with this curriculm, I will not be posting a full year syllabus. I will have a syllabus for each quarter and will publish it at the beginning of each quarter. Because our class will range in age from eighth grade to high school students, I do not want to limit ourselves by publishing one syllabus. We may find that we are all intrigued with Africa and may take much more time to explore that continent. I will have additional work for those high school students who want to have an honors classification. I will need to know this the first week of class. A general idea of the additional required work for honors classification is:
Assigned reading each quarter. One to two books based on size and content. A report will be required at the end of the quarter. I will give you a list of books you may choose from.
One additional project each quarter will be due. The will vary from a powerpoint presentation on a continent, a research paper, etc.
Additonal maps and homework will also be added to the students.

This course guides students in seeking to understand the world God created through the knowledge of physical and human geography, interrelations of the world's regions and cultures, increased global awareness, and environmental concerns. Our class will learn of the physical processes that shape patterns in the physical environment; the characteristics of major land forms, climates, and ecosystems and their interrelationships; the political, economic, and social processes that shape cultural patterns of regions; types and patterns of settlement; the distribution and movement of the world population; and relationships amoung people, places and environments. Students in this course will focus on analysis of data and information, such as analysis of how location affects economic activities in different economic systems, identify the processes that influence political divisions and analyze how different points of view affect the developement of public policies, compare how components of culture shape the characteristics of regions, adn develop mapping skills of each continent of our world.

Colored Pencils (Not markers they bleed through the maps)

Course Description:

This course is designed to give students an introduction to the physical aspect of science. This includes many of the more important ideas covered later in Chemistry and Physics. We will cover topics such as Newton's Laws and chemical reactions while working on developing scientific thought processes and integrating science into other aspects of daily life. We will achieve this through small group and class discussion, labs, and numerous hands-on activities inside and outside the classroom. By the end of this course, students should have a solid base in physics and chemistry, as well as a thorough understanding of correct lab procedure and safety, experimentation, and how science relates to the world around us.

The following areas will be covered:
Physics:
motion, forces, work, energy, sound, electromagnetic spectrum, light, electricity, magnetism
Chemistry:
properties of matter, atomic structure, periodic table, bonding, chemical reactions, nuclear chemistry
Earth Science:
plate tectonics, rocks & minerals, earthquakes, volcanoes, glaciers, geologic time, weather, solar system

Tuesday May 11. Take home test on Module #13 is due.

Our plan for the last days of class will be to cover Modules 14-16 together. So ready as much as you can as quickly as you can. I will cover the most important parts of each of the modules. If our class is cancelled on May 25 in preparation of the sock hop, we will have Physical Science Jeopardy on the 21st based on these modules.

If our class is not cancelled on the 25th, we will keep reviewing and Jeopardy will be on the 25th.

Per our class discussion. We will have a quiz on Module #11 on Friday instead of waiting until we return from spring break.

Remember that you planet project is due the Tuesday we return. Be prepared to give a 3-5 minute discussion about all that you learned about your assigned planet. Please also turn in your notes on this project for grading.

The quiz and the planet project will be averaged together to constitute the test grade for Module #11.

You will each present your planet presentation on Tuesday and the on Friday we will review Module's #11 & 12 and I will give you a take home test on Friday that will be due back on the 20th. During spring break make sure that you review the module so you are not completely lost when we return, we will not have a lot of time to review before testing.

Planet Project

Hello All and thanks again Patrick. Love your idea.

We will have presentations in class on your planet project on April 13 when we return from Spring Break. Remember to tell us as much as you could find out about your planet/sun. Composition, how it was named, how many moons it has, how large, how far from the sun, etc and also provide us with a model.

Looking so forward to seeing what you all come up with. Your presentation should last at least 3 minutes but be no longer than five. You can use powerpoint, video or anything else that you imagination comes up with.

For those of you who would like to complete an extra credit project. Please give me a essay between 500 and 750 words which chronicles the change in scientific opinion of the solar system from the time of Aristotle to Newton. Please discuss theories which relate to one another as well as those that differ. Include with this essay a timeline showing the dates these scientists lived.

In the essay, please compare and contrast the development of scientific ideas and explanations of objects in space such as the sun and the planets. Your essay should include ideas from at least 10 scientists during this time period. (384 BC to 1727)
